Martial Arts for children

If you’re looking for a new activity for your child why not think about a martial arts class … especially if he is obsessed with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Lego Ninjago!
With so many different types of martial art for your child to try - from Karate and Jiu Jitsu to Taekwondo and Kickboxing - it’s a great form of exercise.
Not only that, as an individual sport, it might suit your child more than team sports like football or rugby yet is more social than swimming  etc.

Find a class near you on our class times page. Classes run at  Broadwater Park,  Charterhouse Club, Surrey Sports Park  and  QEP, Guilford and Godalming.

How can martial arts benefit your child? There are a whole range of martial arts disciplines for your child to try. And they will all help your child develop his agility and fitness, discipline and concentration.
If your child isn't so suited to team sports, martial arts provide a great way for him to get some exercise and meet other children.

What skills will my child learn?
As a parent, you might worry teaching your child martial arts could encourage fighting or violence.
But martial arts is actually about your child avoiding conflict and learning self-control and discipline.
Which martial art is best for my child?
Karate tends to use a lot of hand-to-hand techniques while Judo has lots of throwing moves, so more physical.
At Tigers, we use Taekwondo with other life skill games to cover really important subjects including
Stranger Awareness,
Bully Awareness
Teamwork and Leadership
Emergency Skills
Health and Nutrition
Global Awareness
What age can my child start martial arts classes?
Our Tigers clubs  run classes for children aged three to seven before they go on to full Martial art classes. These teach skills including hand eye coordination and increased attention span.
What is the belt system?
Your child’s progress is usually marked by the ‘belt system’ - as he improves, he will get a different colour belt.
This can be great for motivating him and also building his self confidence as he can see how much he’s improving.
